Andrew Griffin at Fat Face Night Surf

Our team surfer has just sent us a report back from a recent event he took part in called the Fat Face Night Surf...

I've not got a great track record of this event, and almost didn't compete until I checked the long range chart to see that there was actually going to be a decent swell for the event.

There was 72 entrants this year, and I was seeded into the third round, which saved me a couple of heats.

My first heat went well in 3-4 feet of waves and I managed to win the heat which put me in to the fourth round. My fourth round heat went a lot different, and was held at just gone 10pm.

I could barely see anything as it was so dark and the spot light's lighting up the contest area failed half way through my heat. luckily I picked 1 or 2 little waves up and scraped through in 2nd behind last years tour winner Sam Lamiroy.

The next day the waves were still a good size so I had a surf at my local break before my quarter final heat. I was on a new board and it was going really well so I felt good for my next heat.

However I ended up having an absolute shocker and only caught a couple of close out waves, and still only needed a mediocre score to get through.

Although it's not an ideal start to the UK Pro Tour its not a bad result either, and it gives me something to work on before the next event at the end of July.
